Thomas Saal has recently reissued Peter DePaolo's I Drove the Boards series of articles that originally appeared in Speed Age and were reprised in various issues of The Bulb Horn. Tom was the editor of The Bulb Horn at the time they were reissued.

They are an important primary source for the study of the board track era and add much new information to DePaolo's book Wall Smacker. The reprint containing all of the articles is available directly from Tom for $7 plus postage at 216-521-3588 or tomsaal@xcelnet.net." 

Michael Cox has recently published an outstanding biography of Masten Gregory, one of the most significant American drivers of the early era.  He raced both in Formula 1 and sports cars, being successful at both.  His story is long overdue.  The "Kansas City Flash" gets his proper accounting.

BOOK SIGNING:  There will be a "King of the Boards" book signing at Border's Books and Music at the Biltmore Fashion Park in Phoenix, Arizona on September 23 at 7 pm.

"King of the Boards: The Life and Times of Jimmy Murphy" has won the 2003 Valentine Award given by the Southern California chapter of the Society of Automotive Historians. The award is for the best book published the previous year having a connection to the automobile and Southern California.

Book signing at the Auburn Cord Duesenberg festival on Friday, August 29 and Saturday, August 30.

Murphy will be featured at a charity dinner in Indianapolis at the time of the United States Formula 1 race - weekend of September 27 & 28. (see below)
